What is the Definition of Haraam and Halaal?

Haraam is that for which the one who does it will be punished and the one who abstains from it will be rewarded, if the reason for his abstinence is following the prohibition of Allaah. The halaal is that in which there is no sin in doing it and no sin in not doing it, but if a person intends to enhance his obedience to Allaah by doing it, then he will be rewarded for this intention.

If a person forbids someone from an evil, the one who is being forbidden from doing this evil says, “You do not know what is in my heart,” or they say “Who are you that you judge me?” So what do you say in regards to this?

Do we say al-salaamu ‘alayka ayyhu’l-nabiyyu or al-salaam ‘ala al-nabi in the tashahhud?

The scholars of the Standing Committee were asked:

It was narrated that Ibn Mas’ood (radiAllahu 'anhu) said: The Messenger of Allah (salAllahu 'alayhi wa salam) taught me the tashahhud with my hand between his hands, just as he taught me a soorah from the Qur’an: “Al-tahiyyaatu Lillaahi wa’l-salawaatu wa’l-tayyibaat al-salaamu ‘alayka ayyuha’l-nabiyyu… (All compliments, prayers and good words are for Allah, peace be upon you, O Prophet…).” (That was) when he was still among us. When he passed away, we started to say, “al-salaam ‘ala al-nabi (peace be upon the Prophet (salAllahu 'alayhi wa salam)).”

Many people say the latter version and teach others to do likewise.

Do Not Panic if Du'as are Not Answered

Many people think that all they have to do is to declare their repentance to their Lord, then they will immediately have it easy and be relieved of trouble, and wealth will come to them, and they will live a life of luxury. But none of that is necessarily the case. Rather there is a test and trial of this person’s repentance: is it sincere or not? Is it for the sake of Allah or not? All of that means he will face a new test.

Enjoining What Is Good and Forbidding What Is Evil

Man is very forgetful and makes a lot of mistakes. His own self (nafs) tells him to do evil and the Shaytaan tempts him to commit sin.

Seeking Refuge from the Evil Eye for Children

From Ibn Abbas who said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to seek refuge for al-Hassan and al-Hussein, he would say:

أعوذ بكلمات الله التامة من كل شيطان وهامة ، ومن كل عين لامة

‘I seek refuge for you two with Allaah’s perfect words from every Shaytaan (devil) and poisonous creature and every evil eye.’

He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said that this is how Ibrahim used to seek refuge for Ishaaq and Ismaeel.’

[Collected by Bukhari & Tirmidhi with the extra wording, authenticated by Albaani]
